Honoring Veterans

veteran

Alder Bay Assisted Living is honoring their veterans with the help of the North Coast Flight Network. Two of our vets, Hardy W. and Phil M., will fly to Washington, D.C. this month to view and reflect on the memorials erected to honor soldiers of the wars they fought in.

Hardy W. spent two years in Puerto Rico during WWII as a land-based Navy Air Force machinist aviation mate. Phil M. served in New Guinea as a pilot flying B-25 planes. He also served during the Battle of Bismarck Sea.

Honor Flight Network is โ€œa non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for their sacrifices for our great nation.โ€ They transport our heroes at no cost to Washington, D.C. from Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties on the north coast of California.

Honor Flight Network recognizes โ€œof all of the wars in recent memory, it was World War II that truly threatened our very existence as a nation. Our time to express our thanks to these brave men and women is running out. The youngest veterans are 84 years old and we are losing over 1200 each DAY.โ€
